Dr Wong Huey Siew is the first blind person in Malaysia to be employed as a career and student affairs counselor at a private college after completing his master's degree in 1996.

“We offer to teachers with diploma and certificate in teaching to further their studies up to degree level which will be paid by the government,” he told reporters after a briefing session for a university student registration at Wisma Pertanian, here yesterday."

Presiden/Naib Canselor OUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali berkata program berkenaan merupakan inisiatif Bahagian Pendidikan Guru (BPG) kementerian untuk memastikan semua guru sekolah menengah dan sekurang-kurangnya 50 peratus guru sekolah rendah memiliki ijazah.

The special intake is applicable to SMP programmes involving 11 majors — Preschool, Islamic Education, Malay Language, Chinese Language, Living Skills, Maths, Music, Physical Education, Special Education, Visual Arts and Science.

The first programme developed by OUM for TelBru, which is one of the biggest profit-making organizations in Brunei, is the Professional Certificate in Advanced Management.

‘‘Keadaan pembangunan di tempat ini semakin pesat terutamanya dalam bidang pertanian, pembuatan dan perkhidmatan dan kita yakin ia akan terus berkembang dalam tempoh beberapa tahun akan datang,” katanya.
